The Las Vegas Hash House
Harriers welcomes all visiting Hashers along with any one else wishing to come
and run with us as new members of our club.
When you come to run with us please
remember that while Las Vegas is one of the most glamorous cities on earth,
attracting almost 40 million visitors a year, Las Vegas is situated right
in the middle of the Mojave Desert with its harsh desert climate.
Keeping this in mind, we ask any one
coming along to run with us to read the following checklist and consider
bringing along the recommended items:
A Hat. Sunstroke can be a real possibility in our environment,
especially May through September.
Sunscreen. A must, especially for the fair skinned to avoid
sunburn. Even in the winter.
Sunglasses. Las Vegas has over 300 sunshine days a year and because of the
low humidity most days are bright and sunny with plenty of UV, good quality eye
protection is highly recommended.
Sturdy Running Shoes. While we do run on pavement on occasion the
majority of our trails are in the open desert over rough, rocky terrain.
Old, beat up, worn out running shoes may get you by at other Hashes but
here in the desert they will just get you into trouble.
Flashlight. If the scheduled start time is close to or after last
light, a flashlight is highly recommended. Following trail across open desert
in the dark is funIFyou can see the trail markings.
Whistle. All Hashers worldwide will understand this requirement.
If you are new to Hashing just bring one along and you will see why its
important as you join us on trail.
Water. This is the most important item of all, especially
from around mid April until mid October. While the Las Vegas Hash House
Harriers provides refreshments after the run, you are responsible for providing
your own drinking water to be carried on trail. As a minimum bring a liter of
water. That is a liter of water to actually take with you from the start of the
run to drink while on trail. This of course is in addition to whatever other
liquids you might consume before the run actually starts. Most Las Vegas
regulars have CamelBaks they wear on trail. A
CamelBak allows you to carry up to two liters of chilled water hands free (real
important over the rougher terrain we sometimes encounter), if you have one be
sure to bring it along. To learn more about the products from CamelBak
Corporation go to: http://www.camelbak.com/
Clothing. In the cooler months, October through April bring
along something warm to wear after you finish the trail. From mid November
until mid February temperatures can get down below freezing especially at night
and at the higher elevations. Bring a bag containing any stuff you might want
at the end. You will be able to leave this bag in safekeeping at the start and
it will be transported and waiting for you at the end of trail location.
Preparations in
consideration of the above on your part will go a long way toward making your
Las Vegas Hashing experience an enjoyable one. While we cannot offer you a
checklist that will keep your money safe inside our fabulous casinos, hopefully
the above items will keep safe out on trail.
